I feel the main causes of stress are life’s changes, which cause us to have feelings as if we are losing control over our lives, living with uncertainty, even feeling threatened and overwhelmed are the main causes of stress, for example here are some of the major causes with the physical effects as well:-

·        Loss of a loved one, family member, either by death, divorce or moving far away.

·        Even a loss of a pet, as some people look at these as their family.

·        Work related problems – overworked, long hours, the working environment, bad management and demand from other colleagues

·        Moving House

·        Having a Baby

·        Serious Financial Worries

·        Getting Married

·        Retirement

·        Financial problems

Stress is difficult to avoid and a part of modern life.  Stress not only affects those with demanding jobs, it also affects everyone from children to the elderly.  The pace of our lives and modern technology all add to daily pressures.

We all need stress; not all stress is negative, it can be stimulating but when we are exposed to long-terms stress we then start to feel fatigued, anxious and depressed.  It is very important to measure the stresses in our everyday life, as many are very well hidden.

Everyone is different so different things effect different people and one thing that will cause one person to have stress, another person will not be able to understand why that particular problem is causing the other person so much stress and visa versa.

Stress affects us in many ways.  It can affect individuals in different ways, some are affected primarily through psychological and emotional symptoms, while others are affected by a wide range of physical effects or both psychological and physical.  Anxiety has a certain self-perpetuating quality, because the physical symptoms can be so distressing that they can make people more anxious or stressed.  I have created two columns below one headed psychological effects and one physical effects, but there are many more than I have listed.
